The Book Station -
The culture of reading the hardcopies is diminishing with the increasing use of modern devices. Nowadays, online reading resources and e-books are much easier to reach and even cheaper than printed books, but they are more likely to encourage plagiarism and cause information errors.
However, while traditional reading spaces, like library and bookstore, store a huge amount of books, they lack the advantages in comparison with the e-books, like book shifting, recommendation and a wide range of comments sharing allowed by the internet.
This project is located in the NewYork Central Park, it was aimed to give people book recommendations by 4 different categories, as well as encourage people to share their thinkings about books in a 'visible' way.

In order to keep the open atmosphere of the original site, and not to cover most view of the park surrounded, the newly-built structure is choosed to be set under the ground, with 4 obvious entrances on the ground facing to the public, and a bridge over the whole space in the middle in order to ensure the typical flow.
The interior spaces are characterised by three zones, the scenario based book recommendation zones, the open reading and communication zones and the outdoor activity zones .
As ETFE is a special material which can control the light and heat of an interior space, and it's also flexible to being changed as activities changed.
So different type of the ETFE balls give opportunities to spaces where need different atmosphere according to the events.

'Train' - Love story books
'Flight' - Science Fiction
'Park' - Fairy Tales
'Subway' - Magazines
According to differences among the 4 scenes (like the subway scene and the train scene), I used different directions of visual elements to create 2 kinds of feeling of the 'speed'..
The way how the nature light comes in is also designed related to the real situation of each scene..
